The LoveLand Foundation
A lot of people deal with trauma. I was one of them and have been privileged to receive various types of therapy ever since I was a child. I also recognize that people of color who have dealt with trauma don’t necessarily have access to the same resources. I know what it’s like to deal with trauma, but I never had to deal with the challenges that many people of color face in getting the help that they need. I never had to worry whether I could afford the help I needed. I never had to wonder whether my therapist would understand the cultural context of what I was going through due to a difference in race or ethnicity. After living in survival mode for most of my life, I recognize the importance of all people having access to healing resources where they can feel safe, comfortable, seen, and heard. This can be a challenge for people of color since, according to the 2015 census, 86% of psychologists in the U.S. workforce are white.
I chose The LoveLand Foundation, established in 2018 by Rachel Cargle, because they focus on helping underrepresented communities of color, specifically black women and girls, by creating opportunity and healing. We all deserve to have access to the help and healing resources we need. I believe we are all capable of growth and healing; no one should be limited by financial, racial, or ethnic barriers. Most importantly, I believe we all have a responsibility to our fellow human beings to do what we can to create a world where this is possible.
How Donations Will Be Used
All donations to The LoveLand Foundation will go to their LoveLand Therapy Fund which provides financial assistance to Black women and girls nationally seeking therapy. The LoveLand Foundation has partnered with Therapy for Black Girls, National Queer & Trans Therapists of Color Network, Talkspace, Open Path Collective, Black Female Therapists, and Psychology Today. Through these partnerships, donations are used to help Black women and girls access high-quality, culturally competent mental health professionals across the country.
